Bangladesh Fifth census on 15-19 March

Dhaka, SANS Correspondent, October 04: The fifth census and household count in the country will be held in March 2011, the Cabinet decided in its weekly meeting Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister's press secretary Abul Kalam Azad in a briefing told journalists that the head and household counts will begin on March 15 next year and complete by March 19.

He informed that 12 O'clock midnight of 14th March will be counted zero hour to mark the base time for determining the latest figure of population.

Azad said the period from 12:00 to 06:00 am will be considered census night and all floating people of the country will be counted in those hours.

Later on March 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19, every individual from each house will be brought under the reckoning.

'The census will be completed in three phases in accordance with the framework of the United Nations. The steps are: main census, PEC and sample census,' said the press secretary.

The census will be completed through active participation and monitoring by the local administration and representatives, Abul Kalam Azad told reporters.

Census committees at district, upazila, union, city corporation and municipality level will be formed for doing this gigantic job, he informed.
